Agricultural University of Athens (AUA)

The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) is the third oldest university in Greece, established in 1920. AUA offers high-level undergraduate and postgraduate Education and Research in all aspects of Agricultural Science. AUA has 6 Schools, namely School of Plant Sciences, Animal Biosciences, Environment and Agricultural Engineering, School of Food and Nutritional Sciences, Applied Biology and Biotechnology, Applied Economics and Social Sciences. The University has 28 building complexes comprise 42 fully-organized and equipped laboratories for teaching and research, and 55 modern auditoriums and lecture rooms. Undergraduate studies last five years. Students undertake four-month internship and carry out a dissertation during the last six months of their studies. Research in AUA aims at creating new knowledge in food and feed production processes, safety and quality of products and processes, farm structure and farm machine systems, water resources, environmental ecology and agricultural economics, with the view of contributing to sustainable development and meeting modern challenges.

University of Cordoba (UCO)

The Universidad de Córdoba (UCO) is a non-profit High Education and Research institution established in 1972. This University is considered at the forefront of research in Andalusia and is ranking among the top research institutions at the national level, with more than two thousand papers published in Agricultural Sciences and Plant & Animal Science. UCO has a commitment with society, promoting innovation, research and technological development as an instrument for the social and economic progress. In this way, transfer of knowledge is too, one of the missions of this university. Our institution is also involved in The Agrifood Campus of International Excellence (ceiA3) as well as in several research centers as the IMIBIC (Institute Maimonides of Biomedical Research) and the “University Research Institute of Fine Chemicals and Nanochemistry” and in the creation of the Rabanales 21 Science and Technology Park. The Universidad de Córdoba has considerable experience in managing and implementing international projects. Currently, UCO has been granted with 35 projects funded through H2020 and 21 projects funded by other European programs (since 2014). In a previous period (2007-2013), UCO obtained 30 projects funded through the Seventh Framework Program and 19 projects funded by other European programs. A Knowledge Transfer Office and an International Projects Office which facilitates the management, implementation and dissemination of transnational projects achieved by our university as well as the transfer of knowledge and protection of obtained results. UCO has obtained the 'Human Resources Excellence in Research logo ' (HRS4R) awarded by   The European Commission, which ensure the improvement of working conditions for researchers across Europe. Furthermore, as local contact point of Euraxess Network, supports researcher mobility and career development, enhancing scientific collaboration between UCO and international researchers.

University of Molise (UNIMOL)

The University of Molise (UNIMOL) is composed of 6 Departments involved in research and teaching, the University is active in international programs. The UNIMOL counts 4 University campuses, 9000 students, 105 PhD students and about 600 among teaching and non-teaching staff. The Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Sciences works through the interaction between several subjects with particular respect to chemistry, economy, microbiology, food technology, physic, biochemistry, botanic, genetics, animal anatomy and physiology, plant production, plant protection, forest management and professional disciplines characterizing the Faculty of Agriculture. The Laboratory of General and Applied Entomology that belongs to the Department, has 3 Academic members, 1 technician, several post-doc researchers and PhD students, which are activated in crop and fruit protection, forest management, integrated pest management, bio-statistic, post-harvest insect control and food safety, insect communication, Lepidoptera biodiversity.

Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute (LARI)

The Lebanese Agricultural Research institute (LARI) is a governmental organization dedicated to agricultural science since 1964. The institute focuses  on applied research on  main crops produced in Lebanon such cereals, legumes, potatoes, pasture, fruit trees, fruit trees and also water management, veterinary medicine, tissue culture, food safety and animal production. LARI has 12 stations distributed across the agricultural areas with two main stations: the headquarter is located at Tal Amara in the middle of the Bekaa valley, a fertile agricultural area and the second one is located in the coastal area at Fanar close to Port of Beirut, specialized in food safety analysis. LARI has established 120 Laboratories and has 450 employees among them 20 researchers and 40 agriculture engineers. 60 percent of the employees are females occupying high position. LARI plays an important role in agriculture sustainability, food security and conservation of agrobiodiversity. Research results are directly disseminated to the agriculture communities through publications and open days.  Through its strategy to support the farmers across the country, the institute provides public services to test soil, food, water, plant heath and animal health. LARI provides extension services for farmers and motivate them to apply new technologies.  The institute created the first forecast application, LARI LEB, for weather, pest and diseases, fire index and drought. LARI established the National Seed Bank and hosts ICARDA International Genebank for preserving cereals, food and forage legumes as backup in case of natural disaster or war damage.

The Olive Tree Institute (IO)

The Olive Tree Institute is responsible for undertaking all research, study and experimentation actions likely to develop and promote the olive sector as well as the fruit trees growing in semi-arid zones from an agronomic, technological and economical point of view. In particular, it is responsible for carrying out the following missions:

  • To organize and carry out all research actions aiming to improve the production and productivity of the olive sector on a national scale and of fruit trees in semi-arid zones, as well as ensuring the protection and preservation of natural resources;
  • To carry out technical and economic studies relating to the two aforementioned sectors;
  • To contribute to the development of national development strategies for olive growing and fruit growing in semi-arid areas, as well as development and promotion plans for these two sectors;
  • To ensure, in collaboration with departments of the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture and professional bodies, the dissemination and promotion of the research results as well as the implementation of popularization actions and demonstration of the developed techniques.

Regional Research Centre on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture (CRRHAB)

The Regional Research Centre for Horticulture and Organic Agriculture at Chott-Mariem is a public institution placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and attaché to IRESA (Institution of Agricultural Research and Higher Education). The CRRHAB is responsible for carrying out research and experimentation in horticulture and organic agriculture. In particular, it is in charge of the following missions (1) determine, program and execute all research and experimentation work related to horticultural production systems, (2) collect and study interesting genetic resources for vegetable and fruit production, ornamental crops and organic production (3) improving organic local horticultural species and varieties (4) improving yield and production by developing appropriate techniques and methods and (5) developing techniques of sustainable and organic protection of legumes and fruits .
